- Impact Face Pitting: Check the front striking face of the piston for micro-cracks or spalling where it strikes the shank adapter. A concave center indicates excessive dry firing or improper damping pressure.
- Scoring on Bearing Surfaces: Fine axial scratches along the piston body indicate contaminated hydraulic oil or worn guide bushings.
B. Chuck Drivers & Rotation Bushings
- Spline Play: Excessive rotational play between the shank adapter splines and the chuck driver causes uneven energy transfer and accelerated spline wear.
